Hello & Welcome to our blog!
We've been learning all about the brilliant author Roald Dahl in the Rowan Class. We read the opening lines of some of his most popular stories and learned about what makes a good story starter. We read extracts from lots of different Roald Dahl stories too. We used our imaginations to come up with our own continuations of the stories. Today we celebrated Roald Dahl day by dressing up, doing a quiz, and had fun working out what our Roald Dahl names would be. We read an extract from Matilda and then did a character description on Miss Trunchbull in our copies. It was lots of fun! Well done to our first student of the week this year. Congratulations Joysmit, you're a welcome addition to the class! Every Friday, one child in the class that wins student of the week has a chance to bring home Leon the orangutan for the weekend. They come in to school the following week and tell us all about what they did with Leon. This helps their oral language and gives Leon a change of scenery from the classroom :)
We brainstormed the word 'democracy' in class today and discussed what it means. We are exploring how democracy works in our classroom, school and overall in our country. Students in the Rowan Room wrote poems on the theme of democracy. The children have started to think about if they want to run for one of the following: student council, green school or forest school. Pupils are busy preparing their election posters, slogans and speeches for the upcoming elections on Friday September 15th. We will see democracy at work as everyone will have a chance to vote in the elections!
We had lots of fun getting to know each other this week in our new classroom- the Rowan Room. We devised a set of classroom rules and signed a classroom contract to make it a happy place for everyone. We all took part in making a group art display for our classroom too in which every student was represented with their own finger print and signature. It was a great start to the school year!
