Hello & Welcome to our blog!
To celebrate Recycling Week, we explored all the materials and ways in which we can reduce, re-use and recycle to help the environment. We learned about rhyming words and each of the children wrote their own rhyming poem on the topic. Lines were selected from everyone's poem to make a whole class poem. We proudly recited it for the whole school in assembly on Friday. We also presented our fantastic school recycling logos that we created on the big screen too along with a mascot called Recycle Michael. It was lots of fun. The Student Council are launching their first school event of the year! Wear your pyjamas to school this Friday September 29th and contribute €2 to fundraise for a school defibrillator.
We explored the artwork of Pablo Picasso today and talked about how he used lots of different shapes in his pictures. We discussed what realistic art and abstract art is. Picasso created abstract cubist art. After looking at many of his colourful portraits, we decided to create our own. Everyone in the class drew their own self portrait and broke the face down in to different shapes that they could add bright colours to. We used oil pastels and wax crayons to add bright, strong colour. All the children's artwork is featured above. Well done Rowan class. It was lots of fun!
Joysmit earned a reward on Class Dojo to bring in something special from home and do a show and tell to the class. He brought in his favourite parrot and told us all about him. We were delighted to have a new addition to the class for the day. Joysmit will celebrate his 9th birthday tomorrow (Saturday) so we all sang him Happy Birthday too.
Here is a video of the children's performance on Peace Day 2017. They sang 'All You Need Is Love' by The Beatles. They did fantastic and kept going even when there was a technical hitch with the song! Well done Rowan Class! We would like to invite all families to attend our celebration of Peace Day 2017 with a performance in the Assembly Hall at 9am on Thursday 21st September. Classes have been preparing songs and poems and are looking forward to performing for you on Thursday. See you there!
